In his 1981 commencement address at Notre Dame, President Ronald Reagan said, “We need you, we need your youth, your strength, and your idealism, to help us make right what is wrong.”
Looking over the final list of candidates for 2010 I noticed the number of young candidates who have placed their name on the ballot. President Reagan would be pleased to see so many young people offering their talents and strengths to “right what is wrong.”
When I see names like Amanda Pasdon, Danny Hamrick, Chad Story, Brian Savilla, Jordan Hill and many others, I see young men and women who want to change the direction of our State.
Some, including myself, have discounted the candidacies of many young folks in the past. The demands of a campaign require a candidate who is knowledgeable on a wide range of subjects and topics. A successful campaign requires a candidate who can raise money, and at times a lot of it.
Youth may be a challenge to overcome, but it doesn’t preclude one from being elected in West Virginia. The young candidates running this year have some people who have blazed the trail before them to look to for advice and guidance.
Delegates Troy Andes, Pat McGeehan, and Jonathan Miller are prime examples of young people with drive, determination, and a desire to help lead West Virginia in a better direction.
As we move into the Primary and General Election season, I encourage you to consider some of the young men and women running for office this year. I think you will find folks who are full of vigor, strength, and ideas who are ready to help get West Virginia moving in the right direction.
As voters, we should thank them for having the courage and determination to put their name on the ballot. Hopefully, they will be successful in their endeavor and in their effort to help the State of West Virginia.

Someone famous once said it takes thirty years to get thirty years of experience, never forsake experience.
Thanks for the encouragement Roman. I am running for this position because I believe that I can make a positive impact on the 41st district. We need someone who will stand up to the Liberals and take the message of the constituents to Charleston, and I’m ready to do this. I may not be done with college yet; or be a successful well rounded politician, but if I am able to be elected and have the opportunity to stand up for the core values of my constituents here in the 41st district, then I believe that I will be able to finish college here, and to stay in WV and open a business/raise my family, and gain that “Experience” in a better business climate.
I first ran for this office while I was in high school because I felt that we needed to have someone to lead us in the right direction, and no one else was willing to do so that. After living that Election and in 2008 I now feel I know what it takes to win. I will be going door-to-door nonstop from now till November and reaching out to the community, learning what they care about and focusing on those issues, something the incumbents never do.
I’ve set up a hi-def green screen studio in my home to do weekly virtual town-hall meetings to interact with the voters, and hear their opinions.
I am going to represent the values of the 41st district. I’d rather take the hard road running for office; taking the chance of loosing, instead of sitting around waiting to see what another 80 years of Liberal control does for us.
Thanks for reading my rant everyone, be safe on the roads this weekend.
God Bless,
Danny Hamrick
