Sen. Robert Byrd, who holds the record as the longest-serving member of Congress, died early this morning, his office said in a news release issued by spokesman Jesse Jacobs:
“I am saddened that the family of U.S. Senator Robert C. Byrd, D-W.Va., tearfully announces the passing of the longest serving member of Congress in U.S. history. He was 92.
“Byrd died peacefully at approximately 3 a.m. at Inova Fairfax Hospital.
Our thoughts, prayers, and deepest sympathies go out to Senator Byrd’s family and his countless friends across the State of West Virginia.
Sen. Robert Byrd (D-W.Va.) was admitted to a Washington-area hospital late last week, his office said in a statement Sunday: “Byrd was admitted to the hospital late last week suffering from what was believed to be heat exhaustion and severe dehydration as a result of the extreme temperatures. He was expected to remain in the hospital not more than a few days. “However, upon further examination by his doctors, other conditions have developed which has resulted in his condition being described as ‘serious.’”

The West Virginia Economic Development Authority has been authorize to issue $150 million in bonds to pay for the capital improvement projects this week.
The Governor’s office is controlling how the $150 million dollars are spent. Many of the projects recieving money will greatly benefit state residents, but there are a few projects that are absolutely 100% outrageous.

The biggest topic of dicussion in most political circles around the State of West Virginia yesterday was polling results released by Spike Maynard for Congress, which showed incumbent Congressman Nick Rahall barely edgeing out former Supreme Court of Appeals Judge Elliot “Spike” Maynard.

West Virginia U.S. Senators Robert Byrd and Jay Rockefeller parted ways on Thursday when it came to a vote on a resolution sponsored by Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski which would have removed the green house gas rule making authority from the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).
