Department of Justice Still Investigating Mollohan

Alan Mollohan - InvestigationMSNBC reporting and others…

“The Justice Department has told the ethics panel to suspend a probe of Rep. Alan B. Mollohan (D-W.Va.), whose personal finances federal investigators began reviewing in early 2006 after complaints from a conservative group that he was not fully revealing his real estate holdings.”

“There has been no public action on that inquiry for several years. But the department’s request in early July to the committee suggests that the case continues to draw the attention of federal investigators, who often ask that the House and Senate ethics panels refrain from taking action against members whom the department is already investigating.”

“Mollohan said that he was not aware of any ongoing interest by the Justice Department in his case and that he and his attorneys have not heard from federal investigators. “The answer is no,” he said.

“In Charleston, They Reap What We Sow”

The most expensive single event for taxpayers occur upon retirement of our electeds.
Story By Rob Cornelius, The State Journal, (Cross-posted from the State Journal)

We’ve seen the articles bubbling out of our fine capital city during the past few weeks. Apparently the newest long-term abuse of power by our electeds and their scions comes from driving state cars here, there and everywhere, many without the courtesy of reporting the benefit for tax purposes.

Ken Ward

"You Lie!"

In an opinion piece published in The Hill newspaper, Don Blankenship, chairman and CEO of Massey Energy, recently quoted the “You Lie” outburst from Congressman Joe Wilson (R-SC) to characterize the current debate over cap-and trade legislation pending in Congress.

The Hill Newspaper, October 20, 2009:

“You lie!” Those two words made big news last month when Rep. Joe Wilson (R-S.C.) yelled them at President Barack Obama’s healthcare speech on the floor of the House of Representatives. Congress demanded an apology. Others applauded the words as refreshing and long overdue.

AP Reports on Salt Pile in Elkins? Really?

This is seriously not even news worthy.

State Senator Clark Barnes has an issue with a West Virginia Department of Highway’s salt pile in Elkins and the AP writes about it.

This must be what Larry Messina, the AP writer in Charleston, reports on when it’s a slow news day. Ken Ward probably gave him the heads up and wants some type of DEP hearings.

Speaking of State Senator Barnes, I’ve heard rumors that Barnes is considering switching parties and primary challenging Mollohan. I live in the First Congressional and not sure how valid this rumor might be, but it’s out there.
