Rockefeller Legislation Would Give President Control of Internet

Senator Jay Rockefeller has been working quietly for several weeks on a piece of legislation that would allow the president to take control of the Internet under certain circumstances.

Rockefeller and Republican Senator Olympia Snowe apparently feel that increased government intervention and regulation will help prevent a cyber attack and strengthen cybersecurity. Language in the bill gives the president the ability to declare a cyber-emergency, which is not defined in the legislation, at any time.

Senator Byrd Breaks Down Over Ted Kennedy

National Association of Manufacturers Ad in W.Va.

The National Association of Manufacturers is airing the ad below in West Virginia. The ad below is specific to Indiana’s U.S. Senators, but West Virginia has a television ad just like it urging people to contact Senators Byrd and Rockefeller and tell them to vote no on “new energy taxes.”

Independent Commission on Judicial Reform Meeting Today

The Governor’s Independent Commission on Judicial Reform will be meeting at Marshall University today. The meeting is open to the public. This will present a great opportunity to learn about judicial races in West Virginia and how they are financed. There is also a time slot for public comment for those wishing to speak to the Commission.

Letter to Editor: Dominion Post

This letter is a response to one written by Dr. Terring Heironimus which appeared in the Dominion Post on August 17, 2009, which can be read here. The Dominion Post declined to publish the letter below.

First and foremost, I am not a private health insurance provider nor do I stand to profit from defeat of HR 3200 or a similar bill.  Dr. Heironimus, in his letter to the editor (DP-August 17), insinuates anyone opposing HR 3200 stands to make a profit.

Charter Schools in West Virginia: More Freedom, More Opportunity

Earlier this week, Kanawha County Senator Erik Wells announced that he will reintroduce legislation during the 2010 regular legislative session to allow charter schools in West Virginia. This is an issue that should be addressed. As the article states, West Virginia is one of ten states in the United States that does not allow charter schools.

Friends of America Rally: A True Thanks to Mining Families

The Friends of America Rally that is taking place on Monday, September 7th – Labor Day – in the heart of the coal country is going to be a huge success.
