Mike Greenleaf,
We believe:
In personal responsibility, that limited government is the best government (No Metro Goverernment), lower taxes, pro life, marriage between one man and one woman, second amendment rights, the US Constitution, freezing the expansion of gambling, a strong national defense, pro tort reform (which will help the business climate), US Sovereignty, etc.,

I know that I have listed some of these and not all, but believe me, we are conservative and we want you on our team to help us win elections. We ask that you all to help us. It takes time to unravel more than 70 years of a one party system and we are committed to accomplishing that. Won't you help us? Thank you, Melody Potter

Arch/Charlie

I'm willing to work to create a viable alternative to the democrats to whom we can direct our thanks for 80 years of mismanagement.

Substance for me is very simple - the republican party should go back to the Reaganesque notion of limited government. Sadly, George W did not do that. I would feel better if I heard the R party denouncing the policies of W - I certainly have denounced them. And I think he has set the party back 50 years or so. I think that answers your questions, Arch.

Charlie, it is true that you have made remarkable progress in Kanawha County, and I won't try to take that away from you. But, I still don't hear a differentiation from the republicans. Please tell me how you are different from the democrats. Please tell me that you believe that government is inherently bad and that limited government is the best government. When I hear that, I am on the team for the big win!

Mike- In Kanawha County we measure success by the number of people involved in our effort. Believe me, more people are involved in the Kanawha GOP than ever before... and I submit that more people are involved here than are associated with the WVGOP.

Also, it should be noted that we just elected a new Republican to the Prosecutor's Office, we have three members of the House, a Republican Clerk, Mayors and city council people, a Republican Commissioner. Not to mention, we have THE ONLY Republican elected to Federal office, Shelley Moore Capito.

All this for a county more than 2 to 1 Democrat.

Mike, with referencee to your last paragraph: which is it; will you join in the revitalization or just sit and wait until someone else has done the work, then join in? I'm sure Kanawha County could find a way for you to help and just not have to wait and watch the revitalization.

Oh yes, define what you mean by substance.

Come on, Fred -- I'm not that old.

The success of which I speak involves winning elections. In Kanawha County, the record is dismal. Therefore, I submit that something is not working. If you can accept that analysis, then we can move forward to find out what will work. After the debacle of George W and his erosion of the limited government branding of the Republican party, that is going to be very difficult.

I realize that in order to rebuild a devastated party the Lincoln Day dinners and all the other fun stuff must be done. As an 'old' precinct level politician, I recognize the importance of that stuff. But, at the end of the day there must be some substance -- and the substance must stand in stark contrast to the democrats - otherwise there is no difference between the parties. And frankly that is what I currently see.

I would love to join in the revitalization of the Republican party in Kanawha County and elsewhere. Thank you for your invitation. I will wait and watch - and when I see that there is some substance, I will be there.

Best regards,

Mike Greenleaf

Mike, you either do not recognize success or will not credit success.
The KCREC has grown from 19 members to a current 55 + members plus many associate members, all in the past two years.
The KCREC has hosted two very successful Lincoln day dinners, over 250 guests at each. The KCREC has brought in nationally recognized speakers, grown their treasury to over $6,000.00. Contributed several thousands of dollars to candidates and supported several issues in our county and state.
They have become a force that is recognized as active in the local government.
Plans for the future will make sure we have viable and worthy candidates that will win and make a difference for Kanawha County and West Virginia.
All accomplished without the help of the OLD guard such as yourself. Come join and contribute your valuable experience and assets, everyone is welcome.

I want to add my voice to the chorus. I have been so impressed with the Kanawha County Executive Committee for a very long time; they run a very tight ship down there--I only wish I didn't live so far away from Charleston so I could participate in their activities!

And while she is too modest to admit it, a large portion of their success can be attributed to their leadership.

Melody, you are in my prayers as you maintain this battle against cancer; it is clear to me that your strength comes from a very deep well within you.

Aaron- As young people, we're fortunate to know real leaders like Melody Potter. Instead of accepting failure, she stands up and speaks out when others remain silent and complacent... That makes her a leader in my book!

Then again, what would Melody Potter know about failure?
