WSJ: “Keep Manchin In the Mansion?”

John Fund with the Wall Street Journal takes a look at the Manchin vs. Raese race in West Virginia…

Keep Manchin in the Mansion?
Another Democratic Senate seat is in danger.

As if Democrats didn’t have enough headaches, it now appears another of their Senate seats is in play.

Rasmussen Reports has a new survey out showing West Virginia Democratic Governor Joe Manchin with a slimmer-than-expected lead in November’s special election to fill out the unexpired part of the late Robert Byrd’s term. The results prompted pollster Scott Rasmussen to move the seat into the “leans Democratic” category.

@RedState: Inefficiencies of Wind Energy

RedState has a post today entitled “Wind Energy Blows,” which points out the inefficiencies of power derived from wind.

“Wind energy, the crown jewel of President Obama’s green revolution, seems to be encountering a stiff headwind of its own. As we shall see, wind energy is a highly inefficient technology for reliable power generation. The industry which supports it depends entirely on direct tax credits and federally-mandated consumption for its profitability.” - RedState, Sunday, August 29, 2010

Liberals Harry Reid, Chuck Schumer Pony Up For Manchin

The National Republican Senatorial Committee on Joe Manchin…

As Reid, Schumer Pour Campaign Cash Into Manchin’s U.S. Senate Bid, Voters Are Reminded Of His Loyal Support For The Washington Democrats’ Tax-And-Spend Agenda

WASHINGTON – Since breaking his promise to serve a full term as Governor, liberal Democrat Senate hopeful Joe Manchin (D-WV) has padded his campaign war chest with political action committee (PAC) contributions from top Washington Democrat party bosses, reminding West Virginia voters of the liberal tax-and-spend agenda he would rubberstamp if sent to Washington.

Maynard: Proposed Mosque is Second Ground Zero Disaster

In reaction to President Barack Obama’s support of the proposed Mosque adjacent to Ground Zero, Republican candidate for Congress Elliott “Spike” Maynard issued the following statement:

“Mecca is hallowed ground to Muslims. Ground Zero is hallowed ground to Americans. Do you think the Muslims would allow a Jewish temple or Christian church to be built in Mecca? No one would ever propose such a thing. Building a Mosque at Ground Zero is just as offensive to Americans as building a Christian church would be to Muslims in Mecca. The proposal to erect a Mosque at the site of the World Trade Center disaster is a direct slap in the face of the families that lost loved ones when we were attacked by Islamic terrorists. Americans, and especially West Virginians in the 3rd district, see this as a declaration of victory by Islamic extremists, and the President of the United States has endorsed this view. This further illustrates how out of touch the Obama/Rahall/Pelosi team are with regular Americans. Rahall’s failure to publicly condemn President Obama’s statement, and this proposal, is an outrage. The memory of people throughout the Islamic world celebrating in the streets when the towers fell is still too hurtful for most Americans.“ – Elliot “Spike” Maynard

Spike Maynard is the Republican running in the 3rd Congressional District of West Virginia. Maynard is a former West Virginia State Supreme Court Justice and trial judge from Mingo County.

Let Arthur Laffer School You on Tax Cuts

By ARTHUR LAFFER from the Wall Street Journal:

Tax reduction thus sets off a process that can bring gains for everyone, gains won by marshalling resources that would otherwise stand idle—workers without jobs and farm and factory capacity without markets. Yet many taxpayers seemed prepared to deny the nation the fruits of tax reduction because they question the financial soundness of reducing taxes when the federal budget is already in deficit. Let me make clear why, in today’s economy, fiscal prudence and responsibility call for tax reduction even if it temporarily enlarged the federal deficit—why reducing taxes is the best way open to us to increase revenues. – President John F. Kennedy, Economic Report of the President, January 1963
